In 2023–2024 alone:
- 260,000 women died in pregnancy or childbirth — one every two minutes, mostly in low-income regions
- 2.3 million newborns died within their first month — 6,300 every day in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia
- 35.5% of pregnant women were anaemic, raising the risk of maternal death and low-birthweight babies
