A nourished mother brings life not only to her child, but also to her community.
Transforming maternal and newborn health through nutrition
The Maternal and Newborn Fund (GMNDF) is a $3 billion global initiative improving maternal and newborn health in underserved regions across low- and middle-income countries. Managed by a consortium of world-class institutions and partners, MNF combines catalytic capital with evidence-based programming to deliver life-saving nutrition to millions of pregnant women.
As part of the global MMS coalition, which includes Kirk Humanitarian, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), and the Gates Foundation, MNF contributes to the shared goal of reaching 260 million women across 63 crisis-affected countries by 2030.

The Urgent Need & Justification
Millions of pregnant women in low-resource settings still lack access to basic nutritional support, leading to anaemia, low birthweight, stillbirths, and preventable newborn deaths.
In crisis-affected regions, food insecurity, conflict, and underfunded health systems are compounding risks for mothers and babies
MNF was created to close this deadly gap, mobilising large-scale capital to deliver one of the most cost-effective solutions in global health: maternal micronutrient supplementation.
Why Maternal Nutrition Matters
- 800 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth
- MMS can reduce neonatal mortality by up to 29% among anaemic mothers
- Malnutrition contributes to low birthweight and preterm birth, the leading causes of newborn death
Humanitarian Agencies Previously Worked With:
- Blended finance that unlocks sustainable funding for nutrition program
- Local manufacturing to reduce costs and strengthen supply chains
- Leveraging global partnerships for technical and delivery excellence
- Government agencies for integration into national health systems
Priority Countries
MNF will prioritize implementation in 21 high-burden countries with the highest maternal and newborn mortality rates while scaling up to 63 countries with the MMS coalition
