Mobilising Capital to Save Mothers and Newborns
The Global Maternal and Newborn Development Fund addresses a critical financing gap in maternal and newborn health. While proven interventions such as Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) exist, they remain underfunded especially in crisis-affected and low-income countries where maternal mortality is highest.
MNF was created to change that.
By blending philanthropic capital with concessional financing and government co-investment, the Fund unlocks large-scale resources to accelerate impact—starting with one of the most cost-effective solutions in global health: maternal nutrition.
How Funds Are Deployed
Annual income from the Fund will be used to:
- Procure and donate MMS to implementing partners for national delivery
- Accelerate local manufacturing in priority countries, reducing supplement costs by up to 50%
- Strengthen health systems by embedding maternal nutrition into national policies in collaboration with government agencies
- Foster a sustainable ecosystem of public, private, and philanthropic partners aligned around maternal health delivery and impact
MNF’s financing model is underpinned by partnership, leverage, and accountability. Funding is drawn from a broad base of aligned actors.
